The Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI), under the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mauritius, is currently implementing a FAO-funded dairy goat project titled โ€œSupport for the Promotion of Dairy Goat Milk Production for Contribution to Food Security, Nutrition, and Livelihood.โ€

As part of the projectโ€™s capacity-building and knowledge-sharing component, a benchmarking and exposure visit was organized to Kenya. The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), through the Dairy Research Institute (DRI), Naivasha, hosted the visit and facilitated a study and exposure tour for FAREI research officers, including the National Project Coordinator.

The visit aims to provide practical insights into Kenyaโ€™s dairy goat production systems, breeding strategies, milk value addition, and institutional linkages that support smallholder farmers. The engagement will also promote collaboration and exchange of best practices between FAREI and KALRO in strengthening dairy goat research and development for improved productivity and livelihoods.
